IRISH legend Sinéad O’Connor has died at the age of 56 after being found “unresponsive” in London, her family confirmed.
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer was tragically “pronounced dead at the scene” of a south London residence aged just 56 on Wednesday – but the capital’s Met Police force has confirmed her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Fans and celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the iconic singer and activist, who rose to fame after her heartwrenching cover of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U in 1990.
The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik shared on Twitter: “Remembering the Iconic Sinead O’Connor. Her music changed the industry and her fierce fearlessness made a tremendous impression on my teenage years. She was ahead of her time in so many ways and gone far too soon. Rest in power, Sinead O’Connor.”
Sinead leaves behind three children. Shane, her fourth son, died last year at the age of 17.
