Is Gayle King leaving CBS Morning?
Rumors have started to swirl regarding King’s future with CBS. The morning show icon has been with the network for over a decade, since joining the team in 2011, but her recent absence follows speculation that she might be leaving CBS for a close competitor.
In March 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported: “CNN is finalizing a deal for ‘CBS Mornings’ anchor Gayle King to host a weekly prime-time show, according to people familiar with the situation, as network boss Chris Licht experiments with new programming to counter a steep ratings slide.”
The publication said King is expected to host a once-a-week show this fall with former NBA player Charles Barkley while continuing her duties at CBS.
However, at the 2023 Adweek Convergent TV Summit in New York, King denied rumors of living CBS saying: “Let’s just say I have two years left on my contract with CBS, and I have no intention of leaving CBS.”
What changes were made to CBS Morning?
In September 2021, the American morning show debuted a few new changes to viewers, including a change of scenery.
At the time, CBS’ Neeraj Khemlani introduced a new format along with new members and a new studio, located in Times Square.
“All CBS News morning broadcasts will now be part of the same family, with a focus on original reporting and exquisite storytelling, connected by the sound of the iconic trumpet music and an ethos of optimism that carries all the way through to the sunshine logo itself,” Khemlani said in a statement.
“We’re adding a little bit of ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ – every morning – on ‘CBS Mornings.’”
The latest additions introduced Nate Burleson, an Emmy Award-winning sports analyst, as one of the new co-hosts alongside Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil.
CBS Saturday Morning also began broadcasting from Times Square on September 18, 2021, with co-hosts Jeff Glor, Dana Jacobson, and Michelle Miller.
