Filming is midway through the second series, with producers concerned countless scenes will have to be delayed indefinitely owing to the damage.
Smoke billowed from Bray Studios in Windsor, Berks, on Monday, with one source on the show — the most expensive ever made — calling the situation “a nightmare”.
The source added: “The fire has totally destroyed a massive section of the props department.
“They will all have to be thrown away and remade.
“The costume team will try and salvage what they can but there isn’t much left.
“Obviously, that’s not possible for the prosthetics which melted — so the team will have to start from scratch.
“The only saving grace is the set itself is safe.”
Crews from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service raced to the site after being alerted to the blaze shortly after midday on Monday.
A statement said: “Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire in a single storey storage workshop located away from the filming set.
“Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a main jet to extinguish the fire.
“They were on the scene for four hours and 35 minutes.
“An investigation will take place to determine the cause.”
The Prime Video series, titled The Rings of Power, debuted last year.
The second series is set for release in 2024, with the budget likely to exceed a billion dollars.
