Love Island in chaos after cast and crew are struck down by horrible illness in South African villa

THE Love Island villa has been hit with a nasty stomach bug.

Show insiders said the stars of the winter version of the ITV2 dating show and the production team had been badly affected by the illness.

It is not known how the bug, which causes sickness and diarrhoea, came onto the set in South Africa.

A source said: “Love Island might look very sexy on the television but behind the scenes there has been a bug going around.

“As well as rushing to the Beach Hut for a chat, the islanders have also been dashing off to use the loo.

“It has been pretty rough for some of them. Some of the production team have also been affected by the sickness bug.

“It has torn its way through the set and the aftermath has been less than appealing.

“Despite this, the cast have still been going all out to impress their partners.

“The bug has certainly given all the islanders a dose of reality.”

In tonight’s episode the drama will ramp up a notch between Zara Lackenby-Brown and her villa sparring partner Olivia Hawkins.

Although the pair know each other in the outside world the women have clashed inside the villa over bombshell Tom Clare.

Tonight’s episode will follow the fall out over Tom’s secret kiss with Ellie Spencer.

Ratings for the ITV2 and ITVX show have struggled in recent days – with the show getting just over 1million terrestrial viewers a night.

New host Maya Jama, 28, has been a hit with fans however.

The former Radio 1 DJ took over the role from Laura Whitmore and has proved hugely popular.

The Sun exclusively revealed how Maya had bagged the role last summer.

And while her year is already off to a great start, over the weekend The Sun revealed how Maya had signed a huge multi-million pound deal to become the new face of Rimmel.

Maya is taking the reins from supermodel Kate Moss, 49, who has fronted the cosmetics firm for almost two decades.

A source said: “Rimmel is one of the biggest brands in beauty with a very British core, so pinpointing Maya to be their figurehead shows she’s very much the It Girl of the moment.

“They needed a big name to take over from Kate, who had already stepped back from the role.

“Rimmel believes Maya ticks that box — plus they hope she can also appeal to a younger and more diverse audience.

“A backlash is expected given Maya is nearly half Kate’s age, but the company are happy with their decision. It’s a dream come true for Maya.”
